Meta hires Microsoft or Apple employees to set up its metaverse. The Silicon Valley giant does not hesitate to offer very attractive salaries to steal the talents of the competition. To counter the exodus of engineers, Apple began to offer attractive bonuses to its employees.

Meta (ex-Facebook) hires Microsoft employees to build its metaverse

According to information from our colleagues in the Wall Street Journal , hundreds of Microsoft and Apple employees have quit their jobs to join Meta in recent months. More than 40 employees belonging to the Hololens division of Microsoft , specializing in virtual and augmented reality, joined Meta last year. The American media base its statements on the in-depth study of the Linkedin profiles of employees in Silicon Valley.

Among the employees who have joined Meta are long-time executives or executives. To convince some employees, already generously paid, to quit their jobs, Meta did not hesitate to double their wages . The company’s generous offers have caused an increase in the valuation of wages in the sector, notes the Wall Street Journal.

At the end of 2021, the Facebook group, renamed Meta in the wake of the announcement, had shown the display of its ambitions in the field of metaverse during a long online conference. Mark Zuckerberg , CEO and creator of the social network, even pledged to create 10,000 “highly qualified” jobs in Europe as part of the creation of his metaverse. In short, the social network, which has more than 2 billion active users, will not skimp on the means to carry out its project.

Apple against the exodus of its employees

Determined to stem the exodus of its employees to Meta, Apple has implemented an emergency policy intended to retain its talents . According to our colleagues at Bloomberg , Apple offers “unusual and important stock bonuses to certain engineers” to dissuade them from resigning. These bonuses range from $ 50,000 to $ 180,000 depending on the profile. The shares are acquired after 4 years of loyalty to the company and are presented as rewards.

“Meta has hired around 100 engineers from Apple in recent months ,” Bloomberg said.

At the same time, many employees of Apple, Google, Amazon or Microsoft are giving up their jobs to join companies in the cryptocurrency sector . According to a New York Times survey published in late 2021 , a ”  wave of executives and engineers” have left high-paying jobs to try their luck in the world of digital assets. Mirroring Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, they are looking to build web 3.0.
