The first manifestation in the metaverse’s history took place in the world of Decentraland (MANA). Participants gathered in front of the Samsung virtual store to denounce consumerism and capitalism.

First Manifestation in the Metaverse

The very first manifestation has just taken place in the metaverse. The event, organized by the Superfluous collective, brought together dozens of avatars to denounce consumerism and capitalism.

Protesters gathered in front of Samsung’s virtual store opened last January, a replica of a physical store located in New York, in which the giant had notably presented its new model: the Galaxy S22. All participants proudly wore the same t-shirt that read “MoneyFestation”.

The demonstrators were not armed with stones or other projectiles, but with signs on which appeared the slogan  “I Have A Scream” , in reference to “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King. The demonstration passed off without incident.

A new phenomenon?

The Metaverse could be a great playground for people to express their beliefs. Even if it is decried, it is likely that it will become a very important vector of information and values in the coming years. When are the SNCF and RATP demonstrations in the metaverse?

This phenomenon could be amplified since many brands are buying plots in the metaverse. Recently, French companies such as Carrefour, Groupe Casino and Axa France acquired plots in The Sandbox (SAND).

The research company Gartner recently published a survey which predicts that in 2026, 25% of the population will spend one hour a day on the metaverse , to consume, learn, work or have fun.
